Record Setters! – Chance

Skyscot's Strictly By Chance
Ch. Skyscot’s Strictly By Chance

This is Ch. Skyscot’s Strictly By Chance, bred by Leslie Becker and owned by Jim Pierce.  Chance became a Champion at the ripe age of ten and a half years, and therein lies a tale.  Chance started out life in the show ring, but at the age of two her special qualities led us to retire her from the ring and add her to our breeding program.  She had incredible pups, and so many of them became champions that Chance is listed by Terrier Type magazine as the all-time best-producing Skye Terrier dam, with seventeen (yes that’s 17!) Champion offspring to her credit — not all from one litter, of course!

Anyway, in 1990 Chance turned ten.  With her puppy-making days behind her and many of her children doing very well in the ring, we realized that she was still in wonderful shape, as you can see in the picture.  We took her back into the show ring and she completed her championship from the veteran’s class!

Ch Gold Coast Gideon

This is Ch. Gold Coast Gideon, by Ch. Gold Coast Richard Skyecrest out of Ch. Windflower’s Gold Coast.  Let’s take a look at Gideon’s record:

  • #3 Skye Terrier in 1984
  • #2 Skye Terrier in 1985
  • #2 Skye Terrier in 1986
  • #1 Skye Terrier in 1987

Gideon won two all breed Best In Shows, with 41 Group Firsts, and a total of 155 group placements.

In 1987 Gideon won the first-ever Pedigree Award, given to the dog defeating the most dogs of its own breed in the show ring.  He also was the top Skye in all-breed points that year.

Gideon’s children were no slouches in the ring, either, as you can see below.
